The movie features the South but doesn't make fun of it. While Stars Fell on Alabama is lighthearted and fun, the movie explores a number of topics, including the definition of success, the role of friends and family, and following one's heart. Bryce's lie about being Madison's boyfriend is revealed to everyone, and his apology leads to a final dance under the stars at the reunion. During the reunion weekend, Zane shows up in Alabama to win Madison back, Madison gets the news that she has landed the role of a lifetime with Bryce's help, and Bryce comes to the realization that he loves Madison, just as Zane takes a knee to propose to her. Bryce and Madison (who is not quite the fish-out-of-water one might expect) get to know each other better over the course of many pre-reunion events, often with Bryce's small circle of high school friends (David, Rick, Rachel, and Mark) and former classmates (Winton the Mayor, Charlotte the former head cheerleader, Kevin the high school bully, and others) in tow. Madison reluctantly accepts - if only to get out of LA for the weekend so she can avoid her ex-boyfriend, rock star Zane Thomas.
Bryce tries to convince Madison to accompany him to his high school reunion in Alabama and pretend to be his girlfriend. Willow Valley, Alabama is soon abuzz with news of the impending arrival of Bryce and his mystery starlet.
As Bryce prepares to return home for his 15 year high school reunion and realizes his high school classmates are judging him poorly because he isn't married with children, he stretches the truth and tells them that Madison is his girlfriend. He does, however, keep up with a small circle of his best friends from high school (hat tip to Facebook). Bryce moved from Alabama to California 15 years ago for college and to pursue his dreams, leaving his past behind.

Successful Hollywood agent, Bryce Dixon (James Maslow), and his client, a starlet on the verge of making it big, Madison Belle ( Ciara Hanna ), immediately connect on the farcical weekend, as just friends but realize they have chemistry because “your heart knows things that your mind can’t explain.”Īlthough the film is supposed to be set in Alabama, it mainly takes place in Beaufort, South Carolina, which with its Palmetto trees lining its iconic Bay Street, works just fine as a background for a couple to fall in love and cause a bit of trouble. Stars Fell on Alabama is the quintessential rom-com plot of bringing your movie star client to your high school reunion because you need a date or else be ridiculed by classmates from 15 years ago. There’s nothing like a high school reunion to make you revisit your bucket list and notice that there’s an unchecked box to get married and have kids.
